What do you mean by unhealthy skin?

Faulty diet. Refined foods like white flour, sugar and products made with them, tea, coffee, and soft drinks deplete energy, bring about wrinkles, unattractive skin and premature aging.

Lack of circulation of healthy blood. Healthy blood adds a glow to the skin and keeps it well-nourished, moist, and free from dryness and roughness.

Inadequate cleansing. Very often, our skin looks superficially clean; but they really are not. Dirt and dust particles can hide in the pores of the skin and clog sweat and sebaceous glands. Proper cleansing not only removes all the dust, dirt and make-up, which accumulate during the day, but also stops the oil-secreting sebaceous glands from getting clogged.

What is acne?

Ayurveda describes acne as "mukhdushika or yuvan pidika" that erupt on face due to imbalance of Vata, Kapha and pakt doshas. Acne is an inflammatory skin disease that affects the tiny pores, which cover the face, arms, back, and chest and the oil glands attached to them.

It is an abnormal response in the skin to normal levels of the male hormone, testosterone, in the blood. Both men and women have testosterone circulating in the blood, but in the acne sufferer, this hormone has a profound effect on the skin. This abnormal response is self limiting and eventually acne does get better without treatment, but there is no way of predicting how long this can take, and it may take years or even decades! Acne can also leave scars which are permanent and are easier to prevent than to treat.

Acne and Pimples occur at the age of puberty, when there is an insufficient activity of the germinal glands. It is a social problem, and for few months spoils charm of the face, as pimples and acne form disturbing spots on a pretty face.
