Live Better Through Ayurveda

Learning and relearning are the basics to practice of medicine in general and Ayurveda in particular. Ayurveda is not a pathy like Allopathy, Homoeopathy, Naturopathy etc. but is the science and art of life, longevity and its maintenance. Ayurveda has laid down some guidelines on the basic of which humans could live happily through all four stages of life (Chaturasham).

Ayurveda has laid down some guidelines on the basic of which humans could live happily through all four stages of life (Chaturasham).

Both quality and quantity can not stay side by side. Any compromise with quality will definitely have and adverse effect on quality. We are living in an era of competition. The slogan of the day is survival of the fittest.

This article aims to introduce some fundamental principles of Ayurveda and their application for better quality of like this quality of life related to the individual, society, healthy and diseased.

What is Life

What is Life? Life is defined as conjunction of body, senses, mind and soul. These four factors also termed as life principles in each individual. Body or Sharer consists of doshas (3) (Three bioenergetic factors), Dhatus (7) (The seven basic tissue elements) and Malas (3+6) (The food wastes and metabolic and products. Senses refer to Gyanendriya and Karmendria (5). Mind is that superior organ which is responsible for perception, knowledge and , thinking and analysing of worldly objectives, there are three components of mind vig. stava (mind of superior quality), Raja (mind of middle quality and Tama (Mind of inferior quality). Soul is the conscious elements.

Different aspect of life Ayurveda is known as science of life in general and human life in particular because it deals with various aspects of life from birth of death related to individual and the society. Social life comprises of two sections i.e.
  • Life, beneficial to the society (Hita-ayu)
  • Life, which is harmful to the society (Ahita Ayu)
The happy and unhappy life are the two dimension of the individual life. The life may be divided into Dirghayu, Alpayu, Atialpayu and Madhayu etc.

Four goals of life There are four fore most goals of life namely:
Dharma (duty),
Antha (prosperity),
Kama (pleasure) and
Moksha (liberation).

Stages and desires of human life and their solution:- Ayurveda advocates an individual to live through four Ashrams or stages of life by some guide lines to live happily and keep his body and normal i.e. which will be free from anxiety, tears and inferiority or quilt complex. The above mentioned ashrams are
  • Brahmacharya (student age);
  • Grihastha Ashram (Family stage),
  • Vanaprastha Ashram (Public stage) and
  • Sanyas ashram (preacher stage).
