Understand Thyroid – A Functional Myriad, and Clear Skepticism on Hypothyroidism

Reduce the consumption of Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Kale, Beans, Mustard Greens, Peaches, Pears, Radishes, Spinach and Turnips, as these foods suppress thyroid functioning. Avoid processed food like white flour and limit dairy products, sugar, artificial sweeteners, caffeine, and alcohol intake.

Drink steam-distilled water. Get habituated to moderate exercise program, like walking or yoga. Avoid fluoride and chlorine because these substances tend to block iodine receptors in the thyroid gland. Do not take sulfa drugs or antihistamines unless directed to do so by a doctor.



Dietary Supplements

  • Iodine — You can increase your iodine intake through diet and kelp supplementation. Foods that contain iodine are yogurt, eggs, meat, fish and other seafood, radish, parsley, potatoes, oatmeal and bananas.
  • Selenium is required to convert the T4 thyroid hormone to the active T3 form thereby regulating the hormone functions of thyroid. Tuna, chicken, garlic, onions, brazil nuts and black strap molasses provide good supplementation of selenium.
  • Zinc Copper, Calcium, Iron, Terbium, Neodymium, Manganese etc., increases the thyroid hormone levels.
  • L-Tyrosine is an amino acid needed by the body to manufacture thyroid hormones from iodine.
  • Seaweed (such as Kelp, Nori, Kombu and Wakame) contains iodine, the basic substance of thyroid hormone.
  • Spirulina has beneficial nutrients for overall health, with natural proteins, minerals, and herbs to help with weight loss.
  • Vitamin B-Complex  improves cellular oxygenation and energy, helps digestion, immune and thyroid function.
  • Bladder wrack (Fucus vesiculosus) is a seaweed that is a rich source of iodine. Traditionally it has been used for weight loss and hypothyroidism. It also contains potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, etc.
  • Makandi (Coleus forskohlii) has been studied extensively for its use in supporting thyroid function.
  • Bayberry, Black Coh-osh and Goldenseal can aid thyroid function.

    Diet is an important contribution to the health of thyroid gland. This involves foods that enhance thyroid function, such as Milk, Rice, Barley, Bengal Gram, Green Gram, Cucumber, Potatoes, carrot, green vegetables, Coconut Oil, Fish oil, Essential fatty acids, Raw Seeds, Prunes, Apricots, Dates, Apricots, Flaxseed, Walnuts, Almonds, Egg Yolks, Sugarcane, Molasses and Parsley. fishes such as Salmon & Cod, Seaweed, chlorella and algae should also be consumed frequently as they are rich in iodine and essential nutrients that maintain thyroid functioning.
